Hi everyone!
As previously announced, Drupal 8 reaches end-of-life tomorrow, the 2nd of November 2021. General information from the Drupal Association about 8’s end-of-life can be found at https://www.drupal.org/psa-2021-2021-06-29. In practice, this means that no further security updates or patches will be released. Consequently, websites remaining on Drupal 8 are exposed to a fast-growing security risk. It is for this reason that CERN requires Drupal 8 to be upgraded to Drupal 9.
We encourage all Drupal 8 website owners to ensure Drupal 9 compatibility to ensure a smooth upgrade.
Please refer to the following guides to check, update, and otherwise prepare your website:

When will my website be upgraded to Drupal 9?
Drupal 9 upgrades will commence the week of November 8th.
Only websites which are compatible with Drupal 9 will be upgraded. No action is necessary by you.
If your website is not ready by this date, we will reach out via e-mail.
I am ready! Do I need to do anything to upgrade?
No.
If the Upgrade Status report does not highlight any issues, you can sit back and let us handle the rest!
I am not ready! What happens the 2nd of November?
Please rest assured that no incompatible website will be upgraded to Drupal 9, nor will any website go offline the 2nd of November. However, because Drupal 8 at that point has reached its end-of-life, no further security updates or patches will be released. This inherently exposes your website, and thereby CERN, to a fast-growing security risk we have to take seriously. As such, any website which remains on Drupal 8 will eventually be made inaccessible to the general public until compatibility issues have been resolved. We will reach out to any website owner who remains on Drupal 8 directly before any such steps are taken.
